One York Street: Bright New Space
October 22, 2015
On a warm summer day in mid-September, One York Street topped off with its last bucket of concrete poured surrounded by those who have worked hard make this project in Toronto's south core a reality.
The 35-storey building was designed by Sweeney Sterling Finlayson & Co. Architects and sits on a four storey retail podium just south of Union Station in the rapidly growing south core financial district, steps from the city's waterfront. Sun Life Financial will occupy approximately ten to twelve floors of the building and, together with HOOPP, will comprise just over 60% of the leasable space.
One York Street will begin occupancy in the summer of 2016 for initial tenants with Sun Life opening their new corporate headquarters in 2017. Once the building is completed, it will be known as the Sun Life Tower. One York Street will offer Sun Life Financial customers, advisors and employees a bright and open business environment; in fact Sun Life has been using the hashtag #BrightNewSpace when communicating on social media about their new home. The 800,000 square foot office tower is being designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification and will provide an exclusive terrace, green space, 200,000 square feet of retail, underground parking and the new existing connection to Toronto's PATH network.
